Otoplasty is an effective solution for individuals who want to change the shape, position or size of their ears. At ReNova Plastic Surgery & Medical Spa, Dr. Julio Clavijo-Alvarez performs this procedure, also known as ear tube surgery, for patients in and around Pittsburgh, PA.
What is Otoplasty?
A surgery of many names, otoplasty is often called elf surgery or ear lobe surgery. This procedure changes the size, shape or position of the ears. Patients with ears that protrude from the head or feel disproportionate to the rest of the face find this surgery a satisfying solution. Suitable for a wide range of individuals, many elementary school-aged children undergo the surgery to avoid teasing from unkind peers.
How Much Does Otoplasty Cost?
The cost of otoplasty will vary, based on the patient’s unique needs and the surgical techniques used. At ReNova Plastic Surgery & Medical Spa, we price our procedures on an individual basis, and we’re glad to calculate your unique pricing during your consultation.
In an effort to ensure our procedures are financially accessible, we accept a wide range of payment options, including financing through Dollar Bank and CareCredit®.
Am I a Candidate for Otoplasty?
If your ears are disproportionate, or you feel your ears should rest closer to your head, you could be a good candidate for otoplasty. However, the best way to determine your candidacy for this or any procedure is to schedule a consultation. During your consultation, Dr. Clavijo-Alvarez will listen to your concerns and create a treatment plan designed to meet your needs.
How is Otoplasty Performed?
There are several ways to perform otoplasty. However, in general, Dr. Julio Clavijo-Alvarez will make an incision in the back of the ear. From this incision, he will be able to reform the ear, positioning the ears closer to the head, removing cartilage, and otherwise restructuring the ear according to the patient’s needs. The entire procedure usually takes around two hours.
What is Recovery Like After Otoplasty?
Once your otoplasty surgery is complete, your ears will be bandaged and you may feel some itching. We ask patients to avoid side sleeping and any other activity that could put stress on the recent sutures. After your bandages are removed, you’ll need to wear a headband over the ears at night for several weeks. Our team will discuss the specifics of your recovery during your consultation.
How Long Will My Otoplasty Results Last?
The results of your otoplasty surgery are designed to be permanent. As the ears heal, they’ll settle into their final resting position, so you can enjoy your new look for the rest of your life.
If your ears cause you to feel self conscious about your appearance, otoplasty could be the right solution for you.
